Comfort Eating: Understanding the Emotional Connection

In our fast-paced world, where stress and uncertainty often loom large, many of us seek solace in the familiar embrace of comfort food. Comfort eating, a phenomenon deeply rooted in emotions, offers a temporary respite from life’s challenges. It’s not just about filling our stomachs; it’s about nourishing our souls.

Emotional triggers, such as anxiety, sadness, or even happiness, can lead us to indulge in our favorite treats. The warm gooey taste of freshly baked cookies from the nearest Lidl bakery or dipping lightly salted tortillas in herby soft cheese can transport us back to cherished memories, providing a sense of security and familiarity. These indulgences act as a sanctuary, allowing us to momentarily escape the pressures of reality.

As an over eater myself, when one of these triggers occurs it can cause me to eat to the point of sickness, or just eat too much of the wrong thing over a prolonged period.

Recently, i have just finished a long stint with work with minimal breaks and this led me too overeat the wrong stuff to maintain energy. The problem with this is then breaking the habit and returning to a normal more healthy eating pattern.

So, remember if you have a binge, ok you binged. It happens, but we have to find a way to get back to a balance. For me, i will this Thursday i will get back to the gym, and try and put a plan of food action in place, with the aim to lose some weight and feel healthier again.
